Description

This awesome Framed Tapa Cloth is the perfect way to add some Island style vibes to your home. Tapa cloth is not a woven material but made from bark that has been softened through a process of soaking and beating. The inner bark is taken from several types of trees or shrubs, often a Mulberry and then layered to make a stiff fabric that is then hand painted using vegetable dyes with a unique design specific to the island and village it was made. This is from part of a large collection we bought from a collector back in the year 2000 who’s wife was Tongan so they are all genuine vintage pieces from the 60-70’s.

These framed pieces are encased in a burnt wooden frame without glass so you can see and appreciate the texture of the cloth.

Adding some Island Crafts into your home can help transport you to a bygone era of Polynesia.
